Henry Biederbick (b. January 25, 1859, Waldeck, Germany-d. March 25, 1916), came to the United States in 1879. In 1881 he joined the Lady Franklin Bay Arctic Expedition under Lieutenant Adolphus Greely, serving until 1884. He served as hospital steward and assistant to the naturalist of the expedition party. August Howard (b. August Horowitz, Jan. 2, 1910, N.Y.C.; d. Dec. 4. 1988, Queens, New York), publicist and editor, was founder of the American Polar Society in 1934. He was the public affairs officer for the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America from 1928 to 1970.
